Glasgow International 2007 and Scottish Masters 1500m success for Inverclyde Masters news to follow...

Welcome to the 13th Inverclyde Masters

Open Swimming Meet

Following the formation of the club in 1995 it was decided that as well as providing for recreation / fitness swimmers there was a need to provide for those members who wished to compete in organised Masters competitions.

Taking into account the needs of the competitive element and at the same time promote Masters swimming within the District of Inverclyde the Club in conjunction with the local Council, jointly promoted an annual open Masters Swim Meet.

The event over the past 12 years has continued to develop and is now recognised as a premier event within the Scottish Masters Calendar, providing a Meet of high quality, well organised and attracting a high calibre of Masters swimmers.

In 2004, in response to requests received to incorporate a more extensive programme, the Meet was extended.   This necessitated holding the Event over two days.

Against all expectations the Meet was successful in not only retaining but increasing the number of competitors in all subsequent Meets since that decision was taken.

In the 800m Freestyle the Club have introduced detailed statistical analysis for each individual who competes. It would appear, from the comments received, that this innovative service is very much appreciated.  (Access to this information can be obtained by clicking on the 800m Statistical Analysis button).

In continuing this innovative approach to the promotion of Masters swimming, in 2006 the Inverclyde club, in response to a number of requests, restructured the entry criteria and for the first time introduced a section for 16 years to 18 years which we designated “Y” category.

This was firstly to provide an opportunity and encouragement to swimmers in that age group, who were considering retirement, to continue their involvement in the sport and at the same time provide an introduction to the benefits of Masters swimming.  Secondly to assist the club in maintaining the financial balance of the event.

Despite a number of adverse comments the majority of the participating Masters swimmers appreciated what the Club was trying to achieve.

In 2006 the Club were absolutely delighted to welcome Master swimmers from outside the British Isles with 3 swimmers from Germany and 2 swimmers from Belgium.  This was a first for the Club and their commitment to attend our Meet was very much appreciated and in itself gave a very welcome extra dimension to the Meet.

At the same time the Club were also very appreciative of the support given by the Inverclyde Council, through it’s civic Leader Provost Ciana Rebecchi, who extended an invitation for the visitors to meet him in his Civic Chambers.

This civic support can only make a very positive contribution to meeting the ideals of the Masters motto of “Fitness, Fun and Friendship

With regard to the 2007 Meet the Inverclyde Masters Swim Club extends a very warm welcome to all Masters Swimmers to participate and though we cannot guarantee you a PB in any event we can assure you of a first class weekend full of friendship and hospitality.
